Running cats & robots

Well, actually this should spell “running, cats and robots”, as it covers the three topics of this post, but I wanted to make the headline a bit more interesting :)

So, what is it all about? First of all, I started running yesterday again, after a little self-intervention I had and because of the nice weather. It’s been reaaaally long, since I moved my legs to some rhythms in a non-dancing way, so I went easy on myself, and did round about 5k. Starting slowly, you know. This was also the first opportunity to check out the ‘new’ Nike+GPS app I had for quite some time now, and it turned out to be pretty neat. I uploaded the run to my profile, so you can check it out here – and now also see a replay of my track through Schönbrunn. Unfortunately it’s all embedded in Flash, so I can’t include it here.

Cats

OK, now switch of topic. I stumbled across a sweet little page called booksOfAdam, where the writer Adam Ellis posts in short stories about his life, and gives it a nice extra touch by adding little drawings to make them complete. I like the way and style of his cartoons, and also the writing, so maybe you will too. Here’s all the info you probably might need: page – twitter – facebook. So, I know that you got most likely all excited and so on about the awesome footage of me riding through austrian snow I posted on Wednesday, but there’s still more to come. Not today though, at least nothing from me, but from real professionals when it comes to video editing and skiing: Switchback Entertainment. I stumbled across their website some days ago and the shots and skills they show are just breathtaking.

HD Hero First Try

So I honestly hope for all of you still reading this blog, that you started well in the new year – 2011, or twentyEleven if we want to keep it hip and american. Me, myself and I spent some pretty nice days at my hometown, with some sledging, skiing and meeting friends. It was a lot of fun, and of course I made some more shots with the new outdoor HD Hero video camera I bought a couple of weeks ago.

To cut down the wait

As these are unfortunately still stored somewhere without any postproduction, it’s time for me to upload a little footage I still owe you, which was in fact the first try with the helmet-camera beginning of december 2010. I am aware that the cut and camera-angle are sh*t, but hey … I’ll try to improve.

Ganz nach diesem Motto sind die letzten Tage verlaufen. Das für Freitag Abend angesetzte private Pokern in der Loungerie war wie erwartet sehr nett, und brachte auch so manchen unerwarteten Gewinner zu Tage :)
Die alte Weisheit, dass man alles in Allem beim Pokern mit 0 aussteigt (über mehrere Abende gesehen) traf für mich diesmal genau zu, denn mit zwei zweiten Plätzen konnte ich den investierten Einsatz wieder zurück gewinnen. Da einige mit dem Auto fahren mussten beendeten wir den Abend schon recht früh, und so war ich um 23 Uhr schon wieder im Zimmer, nach dem anstrengenden Tag voller interessanter Vorträge nicht unangenehm.

Steelers > Cardinals
Gewonnen wurde auch am gestrigen Sonntag, und zwar die Superbowl von der Pittsburgh Steelers. Zwar hätte ich es den Cardinals ja mehr gegönnt, über die gesamte Spieldauer gesehen war der Sieg aber auf alle Fälle verdient. Es hat mich sehr gefreut dass zumindest zwei Gäste aus Linz meiner Einladung zur kleinen “Superbowl Party” gefolgt sind, alleine so lange wach zu bleiben fällt nämlich noch schwerer. Gerade leicht fiel mir das Aufstehen heute zwar nicht, doch die Arbeit ruft und das spannende Match war’s meiner Meinung nach auch heuer wieder wert.

mein persönliches winteropening gestern vormittag in Hinterstoder verlief recht gut. um kurz vor 8 gestartet war ich nach 1h10 auch schon vor ort, und kaufte mir um 27€ eine halbtageskarte für erwachsene. zwar gibt es eine studentenermäßigung, allerdings nur bis jahrgang 83, was mich doch etwas stutzig machte.

das wetter war wirklich gut, und eigentlich wäre ja sonne da gewesen, allerdings liegt fast jede abfahrt komplett im schatten, was doch sehr schade war. die pistenverhältnisse waren dafür ausgezeichnet, nur sehr vereinzelt kleine steine und eine griffige piste. mit musik im ohr und sonnenbrille auf fuhr ich ziemlich genau 3h durchgehend rauf und runter bevor ich dann noch schnell eine stärkung zu mir nahm. um die uhrzeit war dann glücklicherweise auch schon etwas sonnenschein zu sehen, und so konnte ich mich 20min in die sonne setzen und den aus der vorsaison bekannten interpreten lauschen.

alles in allem war’s ein schöner halbtag am berg, meine ski müsste man mal wieder wachseln und mein skianzug machts auch nicht mehr lang, aber da werd ich mich wohl erst frühestens im frühjahr um neues material umschauen.

morgen wird unserer nationalelf das letzte testspiel vor der winterpause bestreiten, und zwar gegen die türkei. während ich anfangs noch auf ein recht spannendes und ausgegelichenes match hoffte, habe ich mittlerweile sämtliche hoffnungen wieder verworfen und gehe schon jetzt von einem weiteren debakel für unseren heimischen fußball aus.

grund sind die zahlreichen verletzungen/absagen und die daraus resultierende startformation:

das kann ja heiter werden…

Radsport: Positiver Dopingtest bei Bernhard Kohl

Bernhard Kohl lieferte bei der Tour de France am 3. und am 15. Juli positive EPO-Tests ab. Der Rad-Weltverband UCI und Österreichs Doping-Agentur warten auf die B-Probe.

oh wunder, wieder eine sportliche seifenblase die geplatzt ist. meine meinung, dass alle profi-radfahrer mit illegalen mitteln arbeiten, wurde wieder mal bestätigt.

traurig sind die ergebnisse des heutigen fußball-abends. zum einen scheitert austria wien (was mir noch weniger ausmacht), zum anderen ist salzburg gegen sevilla auch zuhause absolut chancenlos. besonders zweiteres hat leider aufgezeigt wie schlecht sbg gerade international dasteht. selten so eine uninteressante zweite halbzeit gesehen wie heute.
